This resource is a multilayered web page focusing on a range of economic data produced by the World Bank. The home page alphabetically lists the gross domestic product (GDP) of all World Bank member countries and other economies with populations of more than 30,000 between 1980 and 2012. The data can be viewed as a table, a map or a graph. A scrolling menu allows the user to choose to view the alphabetical list of countries against a large range of other economic indicators. Each page includes a brief definition of the featured indicator. There are further links to additional comparative economic data listed by topics.

Educational value
  • This is a useful resource for the year 10 geography curriculum, in particular the Geographies of human wellbeing unit. The comparative GDP of nations is relevant to the content description referring to the issues affecting the development of places and their impact on human wellbeing.
  • It may also be a relevant resource for the cross-curriculum priority Asia and Australia's engagement with Asia, in the area of geography. In particular the table listing GDP may help to develop students' understanding of the comparative economic differences between countries in the Asian region.
  • This resource may also support the Numeracy general capability by helping to develop students' understanding of numerical tables, percentages and ratios.
